When you ask someone what they think of when they think of anxiety they may tell you that it is nothing. They could be right. Anxiety can be the most self-destructive illness in the world. It doesn’t just affect our mental health but also our physical health as well.
I know how you feel when you experience anxiety. I’ve suffered from anxiety for years and have found that when I get over the initial jitters and get my body into a calm state of mind that anxiety takes a back seat to a lot of other issues that go on in my life. Sometimes it can sneak up on me, but not when I’m relaxed.
It’s amazing how many people experience anxiety just because they haven’t been taught how to deal with it in a healthy way. This is where Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) comes in.
CBT was developed by Dr. Leon Eisenberg in New York and has helped thousands of people all over the world. His first technique uses thought, which then becomes a reality. So, when you think about something you are actually making it happen.
For example, if you start to worry about a certain situation, or even worse, think about it continuously, you are in fact worrying about it. When you become worried, your thought becomes reality. You can change your thought into a positive one but you need to take action and be guided by your thoughts. It’s not easy, but once you learn how you can master this technique, you will be well on your way to beating anxiety.
The second technique of CBT is called the ‘default mode network’. This is where we are at our most relaxed. It is our natural state of mind where we are able to let go of what we are doing and be in our ‘flow’ and simply enjoy the present moment. It’s our natural state and can help cure anxiety very quickly.
Now we know that you can eliminate anxiety by using these two techniques, it is important to remember that you can’t do it all yourself. You need the support of an expert to help you beat anxiety and find the methods that work best for you.
Most people go straight to a psychiatrist who will prescribe medication or anti-anxiety drugs, but this is very expensive and has such a good success rate that it would be wise to look at other options. You should only take these medications for the short term, as most doctors feel that your first anxiety treatment will most likely have some negative side effects.
The third technique is to talk about therapy. It’s the most beneficial treatment of all for the reason that you are learning how to control your emotions. It’s also very affordable and most people can afford to use it for a year.
Most of the time people with severe anxiety are told to simply get away from all the stressful situations in their lives that have a strong basis in reality. The best advice I can give is to get in touch with those who experience the same anxiety and ask them what works for them. Many people have a lot of great advice on how to overcome your problems.
Please note that while you may be feeling anxious, do not take it out on yourself or anyone else. It is not your fault that you are anxious, it is a condition that is caused by a combination of things. Keep calm and do not blame yourself for any stress that is in your life.
