Yoga is a way of life for many people, but for some, it is a way of practice only and does not mean anything more than a hobby. Yoga that has its roots in the deep understanding of life and self-development can mean different things to different people.
Yogic (sometimes yogi-ik) is Greek for “yogic meditation.” When used in the context of yoga, it means a meditation in which one explores his or her own mind.
Yoga is a practice of entering into a meditative state. It is a spiritual practice that integrates meditation with various physical postures and breathing exercises. Meditation and physical postures serve as tools for relaxation and deep physical and emotional well-being.
Yoga can be very simple or extremely complex. It varies from one person to the next and even between teachers. Many yoga teachers are not satisfied with just teaching the basics of meditation and movement. Some want to teach advanced students of yoga.
There are different types of yoga. There are traditional forms and types that are based on the Chinese theory. The Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist methods of yoga are very popular.
Anyone’s commitment to practice yoga is important. It must be cultivated. First of all, the Yoga master should take into consideration the students and their abilities. A student with certain physical and psychological deficiencies may not be able to take part in some of the advanced poses.
Poses also vary from teacher to teacher. Each teacher will have his or her own view of what is considered to be a beautiful pose and what is not. The main thing is that each teacher focuses on the feeling and tone of the body to achieve a specific posture.
Whatever type of pose is being taught, the teacher needs to check whether or not they pose can be easily learned. A beginner can be made to learn certain poses but to advance in yoga, a teacher has to work with his or her students to find the best way to carry out the poses.
In order to master a certain pose, a teacher has to study it and then introduce new poses into the body of knowledge, referred to as the basic yoga postures. There is a lot of self-control required in yoga. A teacher needs to be gentle and responsive at all times.
A student who has not gained self-control will need some time to gain it. The teacher has to offer support to his or her students while allowing them to participate in the pose. A student can be taught only a certain number of poses, and the teacher needs to know when to stop teaching.
Once all of the basic yoga postures have been mastered, a student should practice standing poses or the full pose often. While teaching yoga, the teacher must be clear about what the student is doing, but even when someone teaches himself or herself, it is important to ask how many poses he or she wants to learn.
